To ensure decent work for all and increase remittance per capita, ‘Skills for Employment’ is an important initiative of Access to Information (a2i) Programme of Prime Minister’s Office for skills development and job placement of unemployed and underemployed youths. In this context, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between a2i Programme and Center for Excellence for Leather Skills (COEL) Bangladesh on March 8, 2018. Kabir Bin Anwar, Director General (Administration) and Project Director of a2i Programme of Prime Minister’s Office and Syed Nasim Manzur, Chairman of COEL Bangladesh and Managing Director of Apex Footwear Limited signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations.
The purpose of this MoU is to ensure Skills development through Apprenticeship Programme and Job Placement in the industries of Leather and Leather Goods Sector, Development of Skilled Human Resources for the industries of Economic Zones and E-learning in various trades of Leather and Leather Goods Sector.
Under this MoU, skills development in the following trades of Leather and Leather Goods sector will be implemented: Machine operation (sewing, cutting and lasting), Machine Maintenance, Floor Supervising, Mid-level Management etc.
Asad-Uz-Zaman, Policy Specialist of a2i Programme of Prime Minister’s Office; Md. Saiful Islam, President of Leathergoods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB); Kazi Roushan Ara Shumi, Head of Operations of COEL Bangladesh and senior officials of a2i Programme of Prime Minister’s Office and COEL Bangladesh were also present in the MoU Signing Ceremony.
